Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally inept in the kitchen...it's just that Edgar's mom is that good. She knows how to add a pinch of this and a flick of that to make cardboard taste like filet mignon. It's incredible...magical even. I, on the other hand, am a champ when it comes to following recipes. That's why when Edgar cooked up some traditional Dominican fare the other night (feeling pretty lucky) I documented the ingredients for future purposes. In case you're curious, it's super easy. Simply saute the onions until they burn (whoops! forgot the oil in my illustrated menu) and then add the rest of the ingredients. Cook over medium high heat, covered, until the rice is nice and done (about 20 minutes). It's really quite terrific.
