A while back [ok, a little over two years ago] I did a little color study on the outside of our home.  From the moment we moved in, this was the first thing we knew we wanted to update on our house.  Well, it took so time, but this fall we finally bit the bullet, and to steal a line from the Rolling Stones, 'painted it black'---literally.  It's amazing what a difference some contrast can make and finally, the outside of our home is a better reflection of the inside.

Stunning! Although I don't know what the rest of the outside looks like, from the photo and what you say, it sounds similar to some buildings over here. Although not in the area we live, but more on the east coast...I've added an example to show what I mean, thought you would like to see...
